In the bible, Genesis 4:17, when it says “Cain makes love to his wife”, where does his wife come from???? Cause there is no mention of her before that, and Cain and able come from Eve, and as far as we know there is no other women on earth at this point (at least in a literal interpretation, I am initially literally interpreting it). So does that make his wife his sister……or his mother??? And then out of nowhere there are all these other people. Like Enonch gets a husband….from where??? And then I guess she keeps having babies from her children because this one father’s this one and so one and so forth. And then one ends up with two wives.
So….so far on my quest to reread the bible I am confused. I know and understand the bible is not meant to be interpreted literally, that I am at terms with. But then how do other people. Because honestly, unless you are reading it as a fictional story, as a historical document it makes no sense.
And with this like of reading I have decided to reread the bible, because of late I’m finding it harder and harder to remember parts of it, which I find detrimental to my defending my atheism. You can’t tell someone you think a belief in a god or a book is unfounded unless you yourself are knowledgeable about said book/god, otherwise your argument is unfound and their for just pointless.
